Child, family and multidisciplinary team: intersections care centers in early childhood education – an exploratory study

Abstract

This study was conducted to characterize the needs of educators and health professionals from the Child Education Center (IEC), with regard to knowledge about child health; to discover their perception of the work process and enumerate multidisciplinary developed strategies that would provide the optimization of this work. This was an exploratory qualitative study, accomplished with nine professionals in the education and three professionals of health. The range of material available for analysis was collected through a structured screenplay and reports analyzed as referential content analysis. Three categories emerged from the testimonies: (1) the importance of knowledge regarding the infant care in daycare - the vision of childhood educators; (2) building a routine communication and an integrated care; (3) realizing the importance of a multidisciplinary working and the need for understanding and renewal. The results indicate that educators have the need for a greater knowledge of child health, ate the same time that all professionals understand the importance of an interdisciplinary work and effective communication.
