Resumo

The death represents the final stage of the human living process. It’s a reality that we cannot escape. Concerning the activities carried out by nurses with the terminally ill, this article has as goal to deliberate on nursing care and the importance of hospice care. Starting with care and hospice care definitions, we want to detach the nurses’ role in caring of terminally ill and his family, when it’s not possible to cure but only to take care. Although it is necessary a constant update of knowledge, caring in hospice care is an art, where the relationships have an important role and allow the preservation of person’s life quality even in a complicated situation, provide a tranquil death and promote a healthful process of suffering.
