Abstract

Problem: Adolescence is a time of many changes and participation in religious activities may or may not provide greater empowerment related to the adoption of healthy sexual behaviors. Objective: to examine how adolescents placed in the church understand their sexuality, based on the thought of Paulo Freire. Method: This was an action research conducted in 2009. The subjects were ten adolescents members of group of Catholic Charismatic Renewal. As the method and technique for gathering information was used Culture Circle. The analysis and interpretation of the results favored the discussion according to the occurrence of the circle, considering the experience the group and dialogue with the literature. Results: In this sense, the adolescents reflected on sexuality, demonstrated ignorance and desire of spaces that address their information needs, to promote dialogue and allow the discussion of issues that are silenced for them among their pairs, including the church. Conclusion: It is up to nursing know the reality of the subjects and methodologies used to promote emancipatory dialogue guided by the trust and respect, strengthening a friendship relation for reflection, involving the adoption of safe sexual behaviors with adolescents placed in the church.
