Abstract
Aims: to evaluate the knowledge of resident nurses regarding themanagement of cancer pain and the associated sociodemographic and professional variables. Method: a cross-sectional study with a target population of nurses who were enrolled in a multi-professional oncology residency program. The nurses’ knowledge was evaluated through the “Nurses’ knowledge about the cancer pain management –WHO” instrument. Poisson regression with robust variance was used to analyze the association between the variables. Results: most (68.2%) of the interviewees presented inadequate knowledge. Adequate knowledge was dependent on training time, as individuals with more than one year of training (PR=0.14, CI 95%, 0.02-0.97) were less likely to present inadequate knowledge. Conclusions: there was a predominance of ignorance about the management of cancer pain and adequate knowledge was dependent on professional training time.References
